Shenzhen Port Continued to Hold the Title as the World’s No.3 Busiest Container Port

In 2014, the container throughput of Shenzhen Port reached a new historic height again with totally 24.04 million TEU and an increase of 3.26%. With this number, the annual container throughput of Shenzhen Port had exceeded Hong Kong Port by 1.75 million TEU, and would continue to hold the title as the No.3 busiest container port in the world.

According to statistics, in 2014, Shenzhen Port had achieved the total cargo throughput of 223 million ton with a decrease of 4.52%, including the total foreign trade cargo throughput of 184 million ton with an increase of 1.31%, the total domestic cargo throughput of 39.27 million ton with a decrease of 24.82%, the total bulk cargo throughput of 42.46 million ton with an increase of 5.3%, and the total throughput of oil, gas and relevant products of 12.79 million ton with an increase of 0.88%.

In 2014, Shenzhen Port achieved the total container throughput of 24.04 million TEU with an increase of 3.26%, including the total foreign trade container throughput of 22.97 million TEU with an increase of 4.99%, the total domestic container throughput of 1.06 million TEU with a decrease of 23.82%, and the total loaded container throughput of 16.12 million TEU with an increase of 3.39%, in which the total export loaded container throughput was 11.59 million TEU with an increase of 3.33% and the total import loaded container throughput was 4.53 million TEU with an increase of 3.56%.

In 2014, the total annual throughput of the 4 major container terminals of Shenzhen Port—Yantian, Shekou, Chiwan and Dachan Bay, respectively achieved 11.67 million TEU, 6.07 million TEU, 4.96 million TEU and 1.26 million TEU, among which, Yantian and Dachan Bay reached new historic records since their founding with the increase of 8.12% and 25.05%.

In 2014, the total number of the passengers in and out of Shenzhen Port was about 5.69 million person-times with an increase of 15.98%, including 2.49 million passengers on domestic services with an increase of 19.32% and 3.199 million passengers on foreign services with an increase of 13.52%.

In 2014, the total container throughput of Shanghai Port was about 35.29 million TEU with an increase of 4.47%, ranking as the world’s No.1 busiest container port successively. The total container throughput of Singapore Port was 33.9 million TEU with an increase of 4%, also ranking as the world’s No.2 busiest container port successively. And the total container throughput of Hong Kong Port was about 22.28 million TEU with a slight decrease of 0.3%, falling 1.75 million TEU behind Shenzhen Port, ranking as the world’s No.4 busiest container port for the two successive years.
